Changes likely not yet visible. Increased shedding (indicating the start of a new growth cycle) is possible. Be consistent.
Regrowth is now visible in affected areas. Hair loss typically slows down at this stage. Shedding from the first few months should subside.
Significant improvements in hair thickness and density. Celebrate, but keep up with treatment to maintain results.

Depending on the case, results may be seen in as little as 3 to 6 months. You may need to consistently use your oral or topical hair loss solution for 9-12 months before seeing significant results.
When assessing the efficacy of solutions for male pattern hair loss, physicians look for two things: maintenance of existing hairs and new growth. Both are positive signs. It's normal to experience some shedding with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors during the first 1-2 months.
With continued use, this shedding should decrease as older hairs are pushed out of hair follicles to create room for new hairs. If your shedding does not resolve or continues to worsen over time, we recommend that you please reach out to the prescribing physician.
Various clinical studies have shown that finasteride, dutasteride and minoxidil (Rogaine) are generally well-tolerated medications. However, some men may be at an increased risk of developing sexual side effects (e.g. erectile dysfunction) and other adverse effects due to differences in how the body processes medications and/or pre-existing medical conditions. A topical formulations of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors may help reduce the chances of side effects by reducing systemic exposure to medications used to treat hair loss.
The dosage of your hair loss solution will be decided by an independent, licensed physician based on a review of your medical history and the extent and type of hair loss. You may contact the prescribing physician with any questions or concerns about dosage.
